Picture a gymnast performing under water with little opportunity to breathe, combined with the figures, leaps, and spins of a figure skater. Add a water polo player’s power and strength and the posture of a dancer to the mix. Performing routines in perfect harmony, in time with the music, and with the illusion of effortlessness are all artistic elements of synchronized swimming.

The Ann Arbor Aquarians Synchronized Swimming Team has been coordinated through the City of Ann Arbor since 1992. Our athletes range in age from 7-18 and in level of ability from beginners to national competitors. Our beginners practice 1-2 days a week and are exposed to all the basic synchronized swimming skills in the context of a routine that is performed at an end-of-session water show. Our intermediate and advanced swimmers have the opportunity to compete at the local, regional, and national level. This year our competitive swimmers travel throughout Michigan and to Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio for competitions, culminating with opportunities to qualify for the 2008 eSynchro U.S. National Age Group Championships in Binghamton, NY and the 2008 U.S. Open in Cleveland, OH.
